Zinc selenide has low infrared absorption and can transmit light beams in a very wide spectral range (0.6-16 µm). This is conducive to thermal imaging, which can be determined by the black body radiation spectrum of distant objects. Long-wave transmission is very important for the imaging of objects at room temperature. The maximum radiation wavelength of objects at room temperature is about 10 µm, but the radiation intensity is very low.
ZnSe has a high refractive index and needs to be coated with an antireflection coating to achieve high transmittance. Our broadband AR.20 coating is optimized for 3 µm to 12 µm.
Zinc selenide windows are very suitable for environments with demanding heat resistance. The window has low absorption and high thermal shock resistance, so it can be used in high-power CO2 laser applications. These windows can also be used in infrared imaging applications such as scientific, search and rescue applications.
